The adventure doesn’t stop at your Udawalawe Safari, you can explore more of Sri Lanka’s culture and wildlife during your stay at Jungle Paradise with our half-day Elephant Transit Home and Temple Tour. It’s a very meaningful outing, and an absolute must when you are staying with us.
Elephant Transit Home
The orphanage is just a 15-minute tuk-tuk ride from our door and is a sanctuary for around 50 young elephants, from tiny calves to spirited adolescents. These elephants are cared for until they’re strong enough to return to the wild.
Unlike petting zoos elsewhere in Asia, the ETH is dedicated to ethical conservation. You’ll observe the elephants being bottle-fed from a respectful viewing platform, ensuring minimal human contact.
Feeding Times:
10:30 AM
2:30 PM
Temple Visit
After the elephant feeding, your tuk-tuk driver will take you on a 20-minute ride through Udawalawe to the Sankapala Raja Maha Viharaya Temple.
Tucked at the base of a forested hill near Pallebedda, this peaceful temple dates back to the era of King Dutugemunu (161–137 BC). Wander through ancient rock inscriptions, admire panoramic views, and enjoy the temple’s tranquil, uncrowded atmosphere.
Entrance to the temple is free.
This easy, half-day journey is a guest favourite. You can choose from two options:
Full Tour (ETH + Temple): LKR 4,000 (tuk-tuk round trip) + Entrance fees at ETH
Just ETH: LKR 2,200 (tuk-tuk round trip) + Entrance fees at ETH
